I’m always so inspired and grateful when a destination wedding comes my way. Denise and Steven’s was exceptionally exciting for me as it would be my first venture to Thailand, and if you didn’t already know, I LOVE an adventure!
Denise and Steven chose the spectacular setting of The Sarojin Hotel in Khao Lak for their wedding celebrations. I first walked into the hotel a couple of days before the wedding and…. WOW. It was spectacular. A serene open space sprinkled with tropical plants. Bunches of sun ripened bananas hung from tall shady palm trees, frangipani flowers decorated the bright green bushes and cobbled paths lead to stunning private villas. The long palm shaded path lead through the hotel grounds straight to a private white sand beach. The PERFECT setting for a wedding ceremony.
On the day of the wedding, The Sarojin created the most gorgeous ceremony space tucked away on their private beach. Natural flower garlands hung from the trees, long grass neatly lined the sand and flower petals were delicately sprinkled across the beach.
The morning preparations had begun in the Bride’s villa with the very talented Neil Donkin Wedding Makeup Artist Phuket and his team pampering the girls.
The Sarojin provided a gorgeous spread to keep tummy’s full throughout the celebrations.
The Groom’s villa was in full swing by the time I popped over. Kilts were donned, ties were being tied, and sunglasses were at the ready!
The boys headed down to the beach hut for some pre-ceremony drinks, while I made my way back to the girls for the all important preparation shots!
I love spending time with the girls on the morning of the wedding. I really get to know the Bride’s personality, loves, hates and friendships by being present before the ceremony. Getting to know everyone makes for more personal, meaningful photographs.
And of course it means I’m there to capture the look on Dad’s face when he sees his little girl for the first time in her wedding gown. This was such a special moment for Denise and her Dad. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room.
We said goodbye to the blissful air-conditioned villa and hello to 30+° sunshine and 94% humidity. Hello perspiration!!
You can’t deny this is a dream spot to say “I Do!”
Rings were exchanged, promises were made and a candle was lit in memory of Denise’s Mum.
Congratulations Mr & Mrs Gale!!!
The Sarojin wasted no time to ply everyone with delicious tropical cocktails and nibbles before we gathered for group photographs on the beach.
It was then time for the newlyweds to have some alone time, under the watchful eye of my camera lens…
The sun began to slowly dip below the horizon as the wedding party moved down the beach to the stunning setting of the wedding meal.
One of the most beautiful moments I have ever witnessed was the release of the lanterns on the beach at sunset.
With everyone seated, the delicious scent of fresh food in the air, and the soft sounds of the waves in the background, Denise and Steven cut their wedding cake and speeches began.
After the Father of the bride, Groom and Best Man’s kind (and cruel) words.. The wedding party sat down to enjoy a delicious Thai cuisine followed by the newlyweds first dance under a canopy of lights and starts…. dreamy.
The drinks were flowing, the dancing was in full swing and the fun continued well into the night.
Shortly after this wedding the world changed. Lockdown hit two days after I returned home from Thailand, and weddings ceased to exist.
I am beyond grateful that Steven and Denise got married when they did. They were SO LUCKY to have all of their loved ones with them for this truly magical day.
My heart goes out to all of the couples who were planning a wedding during 2020 and 2021, especially those who planned to get married abroad.
I hope and pray that all weddings will soon return. I long for capturing unrestricted love, the bond between families and friends, dancing, drunkenness, hugs, kisses and pure, unrestricted happiness.
